The Tempo 2D simultaneously measures two components of surface displacement — out-of-plane and in-plane motions — using a single laser probe and a single collecting optic, at high frequencies and with high sensitivity. The detection of the in-plane component enables efficient detection of shear waves, particularly when the direction of ultrasound propagation is normal to the inspection surface. The system can reconstruct the complete ultrasonic field.
High-Efficiency Optical Design
Optimised to process highly speckled beams without requiring a single speckle (as required by classical coherent receivers). Features a large 2-inch aperture for high collection efficiency on light-scattering surfaces.
Measurement Precision
Produces an analogue signal directly proportional to surface displacement at frequencies above the cutoff. The 2D configuration captures in-plane and out-of-plane displacements simultaneously without reducing out-of-plane sensitivity.
Unaffected by Low-Frequency Acoustic Noise
Performance is unaffected by low-frequency acoustic noise or turbulence in the beam path (below approximately 75 Hz without compensation; up to 10 kHz with compensation). An integrated electronic feedback loop compensates for low-frequency noise up to 10 kHz.
Signal Indicators
Integrated visual and audible signal indicators help optimise the measurement setup. Includes an internal calibration signal at 10 kHz.
