Optical isolators and Faraday rotators provide essential protection for laser systems by controlling polarisation and preventing unwanted optical feedback. An optical isolator allows laser light to propagate in the desired direction while strongly attenuating back-reflected light. This helps protect sensitive laser sources, seed lasers and amplifiers from optical feedback that can cause instability, noise, mode hopping or damage. Faraday rotators can also provide precise polarisation rotation where required.
