Q-OPO Tunable Optical Parametric Oscillator

The Quantel by Lumibird Q-OPO is a compact, rugged nanosecond optical parametric oscillator (OPO) designed for applications requiring broad wavelength tunability, high pulse energy and reliable operation. Pumped by a Quantel Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, the Q-OPO provides a flexible source for spectroscopy, photoacoustic imaging, laser-induced fluorescence and materials analysis.

Available in 532 nm and 355 nm pump configurations, the Q-OPO provides wide tunability across the visible and near-infrared. The Q-OPO 532 covers 680–2500 nm, while the Q-OPO 355 extends the range to 410–2500 nm. This broad wavelength coverage allows researchers to select wavelengths appropriate to specific molecular absorption features, biological chromophores and material properties.

The Q-OPO uses a single-resonant cavity to provide good spatial beam quality while maintaining a relatively straightforward optical architecture. Its sealed oscillator protects the nonlinear crystal and helps support long-term operational stability. An integrated safety interlock system further simplifies integration into laboratory and research environments.

Depending on the configuration, the Q-OPO delivers pulse energies of up to 125 mJ, with repetition rates of 10 or 20 Hz and pulse durations of approximately 3–5 ns. Single- or dual-output operation is available, while an IRO option provides simultaneous access to residual frequencies. The system can also be configured with different OPO output ranges according to the selected pump wavelength.

The combination of high pulse energy, short nanosecond pulses and broad wavelength tunability makes the Q-OPO laser particularly suitable for photoacoustic imaging, spectroscopy, laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), biological sample excitation and material analysis. Its compact and sealed design also facilitates integration into experimental systems where space and ease of operation are important.
