Powerlite High-Energy Nd:YAG Laser

The Quantel by Lumibird Powerlite 8000 is a high-energy, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser designed for scientific and industrial applications requiring high pulse energy, short nanosecond pulses and reliable operation at repetition rates up to 50 Hz. The Powerlite 8000 platform is available in several configurations, providing a choice of pulse energy and repetition rate to match demanding experimental requirements.

At 1064 nm, the Powerlite 8000 series delivers between 550 mJ and 1.65 J per pulse, depending on configuration. Models are available at 10, 20, 30 and 50 Hz, providing flexibility between maximum pulse energy and higher repetition-rate operation. The 8000 configuration delivers up to 1.2 J at 10 Hz, while the 8010 provides up to 1.65 J at 20 Hz.

The Powerlite also supports harmonic generation for operation at 532 nm, 355 nm and 266 nm. Maximum pulse energies reach 1.1 J at 532 nm, 450 mJ at 355 nm and 150 mJ at 266 nm, depending on model and configuration. Pulse durations are typically 6–8 ns at 1064 nm, reducing to approximately 5–7 ns at 532 nm, 355 nm and 266 nm on applicable models.

Beam characteristics are well suited to applications requiring controlled high-energy delivery. At 1064 nm, specified beam diameters are approximately 7–9 mm, with beam divergence as low as 0.45 mrad. The system uses flashlamp pumping and incorporates a robust design intended for long-term operation; the flashlamp is specified for up to 50 million shots, subject to the manufacturer’s energy and warranty conditions.

The Powerlite 8000 is therefore suitable for LIDAR, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), laser-induced fluorescence (LIF), particle image velocimetry (PIV), laser ablation, nonlinear optics and Ti:Sapphire pumping, as well as other high-energy laser applications.

For applications requiring even higher pulse energy, the Quantel by Lumibird Powerlite 9000 extends the Powerlite platform into the multi-joule regime. This amplified Q-switched Nd:YAG laser delivers up to 3 J per pulse at 1064 nm at 10 Hz, with configurations available for 10, 20, 30 and 50 Hz operation. The platform is therefore suited to applications where high pulse energy must be combined with reliable, repeatable operation.

The Powerlite 9000 offers a choice of harmonic outputs at 532 nm, 355 nm and 266 nm. Depending on configuration, pulse energies reach 2.5 J at 532 nm, 800 mJ at 355 nm and 160 mJ at 266 nm. At 1064 nm, pulse durations are typically 6–9 ns, while the shorter-wavelength outputs provide pulses down to approximately 4 ns. Beam diameters of 9–12 mm and divergence as low as 0.45 mrad provide a well-controlled high-energy output for demanding experimental systems.

For applications requiring enhanced spectral performance, the Powerlite 9000 is also available with Single Longitudinal Mode (SLM) operation, providing a linewidth as narrow as 0.003 cm⁻¹ at 1064 nm. Pointing stability is specified at ±30 µrad, while power stability over eight hours is specified as ±3% at 1064 nm under the manufacturer’s stated temperature conditions.

The Powerlite 9000 is particularly well suited to LIDAR, LIF, spectroscopy, combustion research, laser ablation, PLD, OPO pumping and Ti:Sapphire pumping, as well as other high-energy pulsed laser applications. Its range of energy, repetition-rate and wavelength configurations allows the system to be matched closely to demanding research and industrial requirements.
