MSHG Seed + Amplifier + Linear Cavity SHG

The MOGLabs by Santec MSHG is an integrated second harmonic generation (SHG) laser system combining a narrow-linewidth seed laser, high-power tapered amplifier and resonant frequency-doubling cavity in a single compact platform. Designed for demanding quantum optics, atomic physics and precision spectroscopy applications, the MSHG provides high-power visible and ultraviolet laser light with excellent stability and minimal alignment requirements.

The MSHG uses a monolithic linear optical cavity rather than a conventional bow-tie resonator. This alignment-free design eliminates user-adjustable kinematic mounts, improving mechanical stability and reducing the need for routine optical realignment. A high-bandwidth piezo actuator operating above 30 kHz provides fast cavity locking, while integrated FM or optional PDH locking maintains stable frequency conversion.

With a typical 3 W tapered-amplifier input, the MSHG can provide up to 1.5 W of second-harmonic output, with typical overall conversion efficiency of around 50–60%. Lower-power configurations can also be optimised for direct ECDL inputs of approximately 100 mW. The system supports broad wavelength coverage from approximately 370–665 nm, with configurations optimised for important atomic transitions including 399 nm for ytterbium, 420/480 nm for rubidium, 461 nm for strontium and 510 nm for caesium.

The MSHG incorporates precision temperature control, integrated SHG electronics and USB-C/Ethernet connectivity, providing a turnkey solution that simplifies integration into research systems. A user-changeable crystal and crystal displacement mechanism can also help extend operational lifetime. Fibre input and output configurations are available, with harmonic fibre-coupling efficiency above 70% in applicable configurations.

Applications include laser cooling and trapping, optical clocks, quantum optics, atomic physics, precision spectroscopy and high-power visible/UV laser generation.
